Biography
Studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She graduated with honors in 1971 in the studio of Prof. Stefan Gierowski and Prof. Mieczyslaw Szymanski. Scholarship holder of The Pollock - Krasner Foundation, USA (1993). Anna Buczkowska explores the issues of human existence. The artist also very often finds inspiration in nature. For most of her creative career, she has been primarily engaged in artistic textiles. For several years, her interests have been dominated by painting, as well as collage. Her painting is characterized by a particular tranquility and delicacy, as well as a fine handling of a muted range of colors. Fabric intermingles with painting in Anna Buczkowska's work, it is the subject of frequent portraiture, as in the "Robes" series, or it becomes a means of creation when human figures are contoured, as if embroidered on canvas, although this is only a deceptively deluded brushstroke. In works in which the artist refers to nature there are no such references, they would be superfluous, since nature itself defines the way of depiction.
