Distillery description
Ardbeg is a Scottish distillery located on the south-west coast of Islay, founded in 1815 by John MacDougall. Known for its intensely peaty and smoky whiskies, Ardbeg has undergone several periods of closure, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s, but was revitalized in 1997 when it was acquired by the Glenmorangie Company, part of LVMH. Its whiskies often feature seaweed, citrus, and spice notes, maturing mainly in American oak (ex-bourbon) and sherry casks, along with experimental wine casks. The Ardbeg Committee, founded in 2000, releases exclusive annual bottlings for its members. Bottle description
