Distillery description

Glenturret is a Scottish distillery located in the Highlands, dating back to 1775 when the site was home to illegal whiskey production known as The Hosh. However, the distillery was not officially licensed until 1818, when John Drummond began legal whiskey production. The distillery has survived many challenges, including being dismantled during the 1920s due to difficult economic conditions. However, it was revived in 1960 by James Fairlie, who bought equipment from Tullibardine and re-established the distillery. At the same time, the company focused on tourism and became one of the first distilleries in Scotland to open a visitor center. In 2002, the visitor center was converted into The Famous Grouse Experience, making the distillery a center for promoting this blended whiskey until 2018, when it was sold to Glenturret Holding. Bottles of Glenturret single malt whiskey have been rare, although in 2015 there was an attempt to market three different versions. In 2020, under the leadership of former colleagues from the Macallan distillery-Bob Dalgarno (master blender) and Ken Grier (strategic consultant)-a rebranding took place, and new official bottlings are appearing on the market.

Bottle description

Glenturret 1993 Chieftain's Choice Port Finish is a single malt whisky bottled by independent bottler Ian Macleod as part of the prestigious Chieftain's Choice series. This series focuses on the authenticity of each bottling, with no chill filtration or coloring used, preserving the whisky's natural character. The whisky was first matured in traditional oak casks and then finished in Port casks #90771 and 90772.

Nose: A balanced blend of sweetness and spice with hints of fruit and subtle floral notes, complemented by a hint of smoke.

Taste: Full-bodied, offering a combination of nutty and wine notes, underlined by hints of tobacco and a slight saltiness for added depth.

Finish: Medium to long, with notes of oak, herbs, and a hint of sweetness from the Port cask.

The auctioned bottle is one of only 1,740 ever produced.

Size: 700 ml | Duty stamp: CZ | Packaging: paper tube with traces of rust inside the tube and on the cap | Bottle code: L190906 30756BB
