Stanislaw Kamocki was born on October 18, 1875 in Warsaw and died on July 18, 1944 in Zakopane. He was an outstanding painter associated with the Realism and Impressionism movements, valued primarily for his atmospheric landscapes and genre scenes. He was educated first at the Drawing School of Wojciech Gerson, and then at the Cracow School of Fine Arts, where his teachers included Jan Matejko and Jozef Mehoffer. Between 1896 and 1900, he continued his studies in Paris and Munich.
He was associated with the circle of artists of the Society of Polish Artists "Art" and for many years participated in national and international exhibitions. He mainly created landscapes from the vicinity of Cracow, the Tatra Mountains and Podhale, depicting them with great attention to light and atmosphere. He also painted interiors of peasant cottages, portraits and still lifes.
From 1922 he was a professor of landscape painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, where he enjoyed a reputation as an excellent teacher. His work is valued today for its sensitivity to nature, subtlety of color and ability to convey the mood of the moment. Kamocki's works can be found in the collections of the National Museum in Krakow, Warsaw and Lviv, among others.
