Biography
Ambroziak’s works reveal the influence of New Expressionism, as well as folk and prehistoric art. Ambroziak works in sculpture and drawing, as well as installation and experimental animated film. The artist’s work, recognized and appreciated early on, has been shown numerous times in exhibitions, notably including joint presentations with the Expressionist painter Eugeniusz Markowski. Sylwester Ambroziak received his diploma in 1989 from the Sculpture Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, in the studio of Prof. Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz. He also studied under Stanisław Kulon and Grzegorz Kowalski. In 1997, he received an honorable mention for his sculpture “Cain and Abel” at the “Sacrum” exhibition in Częstochowa. He is known primarily for his large-scale wood sculptures. His works are characterized by a simplified treatment of form and a grotesque depiction of figures with distorted proportions and distinctive facial features, reminiscent of African masks.
