Roman Empire, bronze statuette of Venus, 1st-2nd c. AD, Gallic (?) workshop.
Bronze figure of Venus (Greek Aphrodite) standing on a marble base; goddess standing naked with her weight on her right leg, left hand raised to hold one of the braids, right arm stretched flat, carefully shaped braids, the head is crowned with a diadem. Bronze, height 14 cm (with plinth 19 cm), width 4 cm, depth 3 cm.
Condition: right leg missing from the knee down, right arm cracked at the elbow, but nicely glued otherwise very good, patina.
Origin: French private collection from the Orleans area, acquired in the 1970s on the French antique market.
