Work presented at the exhibition "Brocade on my eyelids", Potocki Palace Gallery, Cracow, 2025.
Edyta Olszewska graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. She is a painter and creator of objects. Her works combine baroque tenebrism and glamour with elements taken from pop culture. The artist often reaches for Christian iconography and related symbols. She draws inspiration from sacred art and contemporary Internet culture, among other things. She combines extreme motifs, which she emphasizes with contrasting
colors and the play of light and shadow. She often bases her research on depictions of female archetypes, led by the Virgin Mary. She is interested in glamour that balances on the border of kitsch, and she freely juxtaposes religious themes with eroticism. In her work she is able to combine seemingly distant worlds with sensitivity.
In 2023 the first solo exhibitions of Edyta Olszewska took place: "Heat" at Art Agenda Nova in Krakow and "Passio" at Espacio Lavadero in Granada, Spain. The artist completed an artistic internship in the studio of Paulina Olowska, with whom she is currently collaborating on an exhibition devoted to a feminist prayer book, which is being prepared for 2026 at Studio Voltaire in London. She has participated in many projects and group exhibitions, including: "Screams roar" at Krakowska34 in Cracow, "Negative ability / Negative ability" at Prześwit Gallery in Warsaw, "Disorders of the Palace / Palaces' Disorders" at the Palace of Art in Cracow. She participated as a painter in a performance on the occasion of the 45th song contest at the Capitol Theater in
Wroclaw, as well as in a performance during the Maria Jarema Conference at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.
She has been awarded several prizes in competitions, including the 2022 Leon Wyczółkowski competition in Bydgoszcz and the 2023 Eibisch Prize competition, organized by the Franciszek Eibisch Foundation in Warsaw. She has participated in artist residencies in Poland (including Willa Kadenówka, Rabka Zdroj, 2023, 2024 and 2025) and abroad (Espacio Lavadero, Granada, Spain, 2023). In April, she participated in Cracow Art Week, presenting her works at Art Agenda Nova in the exhibition "Don't fear the shadows" and at BWA Bielsko-Biala Gallery in the solo exhibition "Give Me A Light." In September, the artist's works could be admired at exhibitions at the Potocki Palace Gallery in Cracow ("Brocade on my eyelids") and "I am piece of shit / I am cut from the gods cloth" as part of Fringe Warsaw.
