Chiaroscuro woodcut, paper, 58 x 39 cm; signed l.d.: "J.B.Jackson 1741". Copy pasted on handmade paper in the 19th century, damage to the edges of the margin underpainting but not graphics. Good condition.
Large format striking print, based on a painting by Paolo Veronese. This type of woodcut originated in the Renaissance and consisted of engraving the same drawing, but shadows or outlines were reflected separately. This gives the effect of drawing with ink. This print is held by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
