5 zlotych Kościuszko Uprising treasury note , 1794, Series N. A 1., with a 5-digit serial number: 39172
A rare variant—this is one of the few instances in the Kościuszko Uprising paper currency issue where, for Series N. A 1., a spelling error in the legal clause—"wszlkich"—was later corrected; consequently, banknotes with the correct spelling "wszelkich" are significantly rarer than those with the incorrect spelling.
A natural banknote, retaining the natural “ribbed” texture of handmade paper, a rarer variant, featuring a fragment of the watermark in the paper in the form of the inscription [ZOONEN]—the lower portion of the auxiliary watermark belonging to the handmade paper manufacturer, who marked his product with the watermark: J HONIG & ZOONEN.
A piece with a very attractive appearance, due in part to the exceptionally intense raspberry hue of the paper. The letters B and S—a chemical security mark—are very clearly visible on the banknote, as is a legibly imprinted dry seal and the very clearly visible signatures of the two commissioners, J. Fechner and K. Reykowski, each executed in a different type of ink.
An exceptionally attractive piece for the rarer 5 zlotych denomination from 1794; this is one of the finest 5 zlotych notes from 1794 to have appeared at auction in recent times. Its condition is confirmed by a PMG grading score that is high for this denomination.
