First edition. A novel set in the realities of post-revolutionary Russia, during the famine and chaos of the first years of Bolshevik rule. Aleksandr Sergeyevich Nevierov (born Aleksandr Sergeyevich Skobielev, 1886-1923) was a Russian writer and playwright who came from a peasant family. After graduating from a teacher's seminary, he worked as a village teacher for many years, which strongly influenced the themes of his early work. After the October Revolution, he sided with the Bolsheviks and engaged in literary and agitational activities. He spent the last years of his life in Moscow, associated with the literary group Kuznetsov.
