Jan Berdyszak was born on June 15, 1934 in Zawory, and died in Poznan on September 18, 2014.
From 1952 to 1958, he studied sculpture at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznan. The artist was concerned with the issue of space and its influence on the art object (he introduced empty holes in his compositions, allowing real space to intrude). Berdyszak's interests included internal space (created by the artist) and real space (accidental, which interfered with the object and gave it new meanings). He translated abstract concepts into the language of art: openness, infinity. He was the author of series of works, among others: "Double circles", "Concentrating areas", "Pass-par-tout", "Transparent". In his artistic experiments he used graphics, painting, sculpture, installations. Jan Berdyszak's activities included theater stage design projects, drawing sketches, a number of publications. He was a long-time, distinguished educator, professor at the Poznan State Higher School of Fine Arts (now the Academy of Fine Arts). His works can be found, among others, in the Museum of Art in Lodz, the Center of Sculpture in Oronsko, in the collections of UNESCO in Paris, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Staatliches Museum in Berlin, the Pushkin Museum in Moscow
