Antonin Chittussi (1847-1891), Landscape with a Wooden House. Antonín Chittussi was a 19th-century Czech landscape painter; a pupil of the painters JM Trenkwald and Jan Swerts, successor of Adolf Kosárek and predecessor of Antonín Slavíček. He is considered to be one of the most famous Czech painters of the 19th century. Wrapped in a rosy light, Chittussi here presents us with a wooden farmhouse in the middle of a green valley surrounded by barren mountains. The view is totally realistic and, as in most of his works, it shows a low horizon with the main focus on the sky. This painting stands out above all for its lively and spontaneous brushwork. The artwork is signed lower left.
