Teodor Axentowicz - painter, printmaker and educator, was born into a family of Polish Armenians, educated at the Munich Academy from 1879 to 1882 , from 1882 to 1895 deepened his artistic studies in Paris, traveled to England, Italy and the United States. In 1895 he became a professor at the Cracow School of Fine Arts, later the Academy of Fine Arts, and became its rector in 1910. He was one of the founders of the Society of Polish Artists "Sztuka", a member of the Vienna Secession, and an honorary member of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He painted portraits, especially in pastel technique, genre scenes with folk themes, often from the Hutsul region, and also did graphic art. In 1899 Teodor Axentowicz bought a large plot of land in Zakopane on the Bystra stream, with a villa named after his eldest daughter Gladys. From then on, the artist and his family divided their time between Krakow and Zakopane, where he visited frequently; in 1914 he hosted Jozef Conrad Korzeniowski there, among others.
Teodor Axentowicz's landscape is rare on the auction market.
