Erich Kittmann (Kłodzko 1892–1978 Mittenwald), a Wrocław-based landscape painter, printmaker, and portraitist, was the creator of, among other works, official court portraits in Denmark and Germany. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław from 1912 to 1916 under Arnold Busch and at the Academy of Art and Artistic Crafts under Eduard Kaempffer. He primarily painted landscapes of the Karkonosze Mountains, including many from the vicinity of Jelenia Góra. He attached great importance to the role of light, often introducing stronger contrasts between the bright and shaded areas of the landscape.
