Excellent watercolor depicting a scene from the Vienna expedition near the town of Tulln. At the forefront of the multifaceted representation is Lieutenant Ruszczyc leading the captured captives into the camp. The painting, executed in the first half of the 1880s, impresses with its precise execution and rich colors. Enthusiasts of the master's work will surely appreciate the characteristic lightness of composition building and attention to the realism of the representation. The work belongs to the mature period of creativity of the senior of the Kossak family. The work was presented in the year of its creation at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Cracow. It is worth noting that genre and battle scenes were recurring themes in the works, and the artist was a highly regarded illustrator of magazines and publications. The offered composition was one of the paintings created on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the relief of Vienna. On this occasion, Juliusz Kossak made, among other things, illustrations for "Dyary of the Vienna Occasion of 1683" by Mikołaj Dyakowski, the painting "The Entry of John III into Vienna", "The Battle of Parkanami" or the watercolor "The Prophet's Banner". As president of the Artistic and Literary Circle in Cracow, he initiated an album of compositions about John III Sobieski.
