Biography
German painter specializing in animalistic representations. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He painted numerous compositions using various species of birds. His works openly alluded to the so-called "bird kingdoms" prevalent in Dutch art of the 17th century, especially the paintings of Melchior de Hondecoeter and his circle. He was the father of Max Hänger II also referred to as Max Hänger junior.
