Jerzy Świątkowski (b. 1942, Grudziądz) is a painter, printmaker, writer, and poet. He is a member of ZPAP, the “Świat” Association, the Creative Union of Polish Writers, and the Association of Polish Journalists. Over 20 solo exhibitions (including at the “Zapiecek” and “Forma&Colour” galleries in Warsaw). Participation in over 60 group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He has received over 20 awards and honors, including the First Prize from the K.P.T.K. Grudziądz in 1971, 2 zlote medals at the Poznań International Fair (M.T.P.) in 1984, and the Second Prize at the Warsaw Autumn of the Arts in 1993. He participated in Artbarbakan ’98. The artist always emphasizes his independence and his critical, if not sarcastic, attitude toward reality—which, in a sense, stands in contrast to the colorful world of his paintings and drawings. He was an active member of professional and artistic associations. First and foremost, the Association of Polish Fine Artists (ZPAP), as well as the “Świat” Association, the Creative Union of Polish Writers, and the Association of Polish Journalists. He is highly critical of the practice of subjecting art after 1990 solely to market mechanisms, a view he expresses in numerous drawings devoted to the theme of the Round Table.
