FASHION. Moden Almanach. Fashion Illustrations from Four Centuries, 1500–1900; published by Haus Neuerburg, Cologne, 1933; source material from the Lipperheide Costume Library and the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin; historical research by Dr. W. Bruhn, artistic direction and graphic design by Prof. O.H.W. Handank; introduction and texts by W. Bruhn; the almanac contains 280 color illustrations in gilded frames, depicting fashion over a span of 400 years: 1) Renaissance fashion and the Reformation period 1500–1550 (12 illustrations based on Dürer, Holbein, and Aldegrever); 2) Spanish fashion in Italy, 1550–1610 (44 illustrations based on works by J. Amman and A. de Bruyn, among others); 3) fashion during the Thirty Years’ War, 1610–1650 (8 illustrations based on works by J. Callot and W. Hollar); 4) fashion during the reign of Louis XIV, 1650–1715 (12 illustrations based on R. le Hooghe and S. Leclerc); 5) clothing of German townspeople ca. 1710 (12 illustrations); 6) fashion during the Rococo period, 1720–1750 (8 illustrations, including those based on A. Watteau); 7) fashion during the reign of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, 1770–1790 (36 illustrations, including those based on works by D. Chodowiecki and J. Gradmann); 8) fashion during the French Revolution and the Directory, 1789–1799, and English fashion c. 1800 (52 illustrations, including those based on P. Debucourt); 9) Empire fashion, 1800–1815 (36 illustrations, including those by H. Vernet); 10) fashion during the Restoration and Biedermeier periods, 1817–1840 (24 illustrations, including works by G. Cruikshank, L.M. Lanté, G.J. Gatine, and Gavarni); 11) crinoline fashion 1840–1870 (16 illustrations); 12) turn-of-the-century fashion 1871–1900 (20 illustrations); plus b/w illustrations in the text; 48 unnumbered pages, pages in very good/good condition, some soiling, cardboard binding, contemporary with handwritten title; 4o format.

Published as a sammelbilder-album (i.e., a type of picture card collection album), which was popular in Germany in the first half of the 20th century. This format was used, among others, by tobacco companies (collectible cards, known as Zigarettenbilder, were included).
