Painted by Picasso in 1902, the painting comes from the so-called "Blue Period", which followed the suicide death of the artist's friend Casagemas, Pablo Picasso's works from 1901-1904 are referred to as the Blue Period. The paintings are kept in melancholy colors and show subjects and figures of poor people. They include The Ascetic, Blue Nude, Two Sisters, Celestine, Ironing Woman, Old Guitarist, Woman in Shawl and others.
