Collotype is a type of lithographic printing that is about 125 years old and has already been phased out. It was used to achieve an almost photographic reproduction with up to fourteen color printing passes (with special light-resistant colors that have survived for decades), which is by far the noblest printing technique and light resistance cannot be achieved even today with the most modern production methods.
Due to the time-consuming, manual and therefore expensive work process, the lack of commissions for artists or museums, and the lack of future prospects for specialized workers, this most faithful of all known printing methods has been considered "extinct" worldwide for two decades and is no longer suitable for use.
That's why these last classic phototype lithographs are something unique and unreproducible for any lover of the historical art of printing.
The work "Large Head of a Woman in an Ornate Hat" belongs to a series of portraits that Pablo Picasso created in the 1960s, focusing on female figures, often using strong colors and expressive, even predatory forms.
