Tadeusz Jackowski was born in 1936 in Bruges. He studied at the Department of Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in Mieczysław Wejman’s studio. From 1958 to 1959, he continued his education at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He headed the Metal Techniques Studio at the University of Arts in Poznań. In 1978, he was awarded the title of full professor at the Poznań university. He works in printmaking and drawing, specializing in traditional printmaking techniques.
He most frequently employs the mezzotint and aquatint techniques. Among the themes he explores are figural and allegorical scenes, cityscapes, and still lifes. Since 1961, he has participated in over 150 group exhibitions of printmaking. His works are held in the collections of the National Museums in Warsaw, Kraków, and Wrocław; museum collections in Łódź, Bydgoszcz, and Legnica; the Museum of the Lubusz Region in Zielona Góra; the National Museum in Stockholm; the Museum of Art in Skopje, the Kupferstich Kabinett in Dresden, the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire in Geneva, and the Gabinetto delle Stampe in Florence. He is the recipient of more than a dozen awards, including: the Minister of Culture and Art Award (1965); the Gold Medal at the International Graphic Arts Biennale in Florence (1970), and the Bronze Medal at the Autumn Salon of the Society of Friends of the Fine Arts in 1961. In 2011, he was awarded the Silver Medal “Gloria Artis” for Distinguished Service to Culture.
