The "Urbs Varsovia" engraving is one of the most spectacular and historically valuable depictions of Warsaw from the mid-17th century. It shows a wide panorama of the city viewed from the Prague bank of the Vistula River, and its composition is based on a sketch made "from nature" on June 22, 1656 by Erik J. Dahlberg - an artist, architect and military engineer, acting in the service of King Charles X Gustav during the Polish-Swedish War.
The drawing, made by Dahlberg, became the basis for a later graphic design. Based on it, Nicolas Perelle - a French engraver specializing in maps and views of European cities - prepared an engraved version, which was then published in 1696 in Nuremberg. The engraving was included in Samuel Pufendorf ' s work "De Rebus a Carolo Gustavo Sveciae Rege Gestis Commentariorium Libri Septem" as plate No. 54.
