Willy Zügel (Munich 1876 – 1950 Wolkenhof) – sculptor, creator of animal figures, professor at the Academy in Munich. He inherited his passion for animal art from his father, Heinrich von Zügel (1850, Murrhardt – 1941, Munich), a veterinarian and one of Germany’s most sought-after animal painters. Willy studied sculpture at the Munich Academy. Like his father, he later became a professor there. In 1913, the artist received a gold medal at the International Art Exhibition in Munich. He was a member of the famous Secession group. His works are housed in the Stuttgart Parliament Building, the National Gallery in Berlin, the House of Art in Bremen, the Museum in Budapest, and the National Gallery in Munich. He created bronze sculptures and models for renowned porcelain manufacturers: Rosenthal, Nymphenburg, and Meissen.
