100 x 75 cm
This painting was made by the Italian painter Simone Cantarini, born in Pesaro but belonging, by style, to the so-called Bolognese school. He was one of the most appreciated Italian artists for several reasons; first of all, his ability to juggle an era surrounded by different styles (such as Late Mannerism and Baroque), a skill that is also seen in the training and stylistic path that he completed, aimed at perfection on the one hand, and customization on the other. He was influenced by the works of two excellent masters belonging to the Caravaggesque current; O. Gentileschi and Giovanni Francesco Fossombrone. The influence of Gentileschi is, for example, perceptible in the opalescent elegance of the color and in the particular delicacy of the structural composition.
He was able to train alongside Claudio Ridolfi and Barocci, but his interest turned to Guido Reni, of whom he was a student.
