Marcin CIEÑSKI (b. 1976), Untitled [BCN], 2011

Marcin Cienski is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He received his diploma from Grzegorz Bednarski's painting studio in 2001. He currently lives and works in the USA. It seems that the inspiration for the offered canvas may have been an old photograph. The visualized interior of a corner of the room, captured in an unusual frame, shows elements hanging on the walls that cast enigmatic shadows, in an interior already enveloped in darkness. The atmosphere of understatement palpable in the painting leaves room for the viewer to develop the narrative. This space was specifically left by the artist. As in other paintings, Marcin Cienski is careful not to limit the field to interpretation, associations or spiritual sensations. The painter calls it a "secret source" recognizing it as part of his workshop. Such an open-minded approach may also be related to his experiences from his studies, more precisely from the studio of Grzegorz Bednarski, who, along with Tadeusz Boruta, among others, was one of the artists associated with Krakow figuration touching on religious aspects.
