A 19th century French mayor's representative cord, intended for ceremonial purposes. The handle is made of brass and decorated with rich relief decoration, including motifs of a soldier's head on the pommel. The crossbar is decorated with ornaments and the shield has a characteristic shell shape. The stems are made of grooved mother-of-pearl, fixed with brass fittings. The blade is decorated on one side with etched patterns, including heraldic motifs and stylized plant ornaments. The cord is complemented by a leather scabbard with brass fittings, decorated with relief elements
