Scabbard of mounted troops, Netherlands, ca. 1650

Closed blade, steel frame. Tailpiece with a sigmoidal, disc-shaped rim. Symmetrical shields partly openworked, with holes, partly decorated with buttons. The bow is fixed to the spherical head with a screw. Wooden shaft, spun, bottom set in a ring at the hilt. Top head riveted with a headstock pin. The edges of the shield reinforced with a steel band. The blade is steel, straight, polished, with a lenticular cross-section, double-edged. Along the length of the pawn, profiled on both sides in a narrow groove, inside of which nailed: "MEFECIT SALINGEN". At the base and at the end of the furrow the mint marks are scored.
