The painting depicts a detached house and the small whitewashed trees surrounding it. The irregularity of the body, the non-uniformity of the color of the walls and the arrangement of the windows suggest that this is an aged building, subjected to alterations over the years. Thick, shaky brushstrokes intensify the impression of unreality, detachment from the context - the gray background, devoid of perspective and detail, has a similar effect.
Dorota Brodowska (born 1954) is a Polish painter, set designer and theater director. She graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the studio of Ludwik Maciąg. She made her debut with the exhibition "Any resemblance of persons and events is purely coincidental" at Piwnica Pod Baranami in Cracow. She is a recipient of the Polcul Foundation award, a several-time scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and Art, and received a scholarship for 2010 from the City of Warsaw. In her work she often combines painting and sculpture, often using recycled materials, for example. She also does stage design, space arrangement, and directing - her directorial debut was Samuel Beckett's "Joyful Days" staged at the J. Kochanowski Powszechny Theater in Radom.
