Erwin ELSTER (1887-1977). Painter, educator. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Cracow under W. Weiss, F. Ruszczyc, J. Fałat, J. Pankiewicz, deepened at the Académie de la Grande Chaumi?re in Paris. He participated in the exhibitions of the Formists, the Cracow Art Society. Associated with the Poznan Plastika, then with the groups Jednoróg, Awangarda, Lviv's New Generation. Pedagogue at the Department of Painting Sculpture and Drawing at the Faculty of Architecture of Gdansk University of Technology. Member of ZPAP. He painted in oil, pastel, watercolor genre scenes, portraits, landscapes, still lifes. In painting he moved from formalism, through moderate cubism to colorism. Creator of avant-garde landscapes with architectural motifs in France, among other places. In Poland, he was fond of depicting eastern Lesser Poland, Biecz, Krzemieniec, Buczacz, Podolia.
