Work by Jacenty Wójcik (Lublin 1940-2018 Warsaw), Polish painter working in the spirit of abstractionism. He studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the studio of Eugeniusz Eibisch, and received his diploma in 1969. He created easel paintings, mainly in oil and mixed technique. In the work presented here, one can notice Wójcik's typical exploitation of the formal features of the work, such as color, rhythm and shape. The composition consists of an interpenetrating network of sinusoidal lines, evoking associations with the organic world. The purpose of the canvas is not to create an illusion of the world, but to build a two-dimensional space in which the relationships between fields, lines and colors are discovered. The composition is based on the rhythmic division of the plane, treated by the artist like a taut membrane - a field of internal tensions that balance each other.
Wojcik treats the picture plane as a microcosm - a space where the tension between line and color creates its own reality. This is a composition that is sure to appeal to lovers of 1960s aesthetics.
