Joanna Grochocka / Dancers / acrylic and pastel on cardboard / dimensions: 70x100cm
The biggest inspiration for the work was, of course, Gronowski himself - outside the context of the exhibition, I have been an admirer of his work for many years. The painting I refer to (couple in dance), despite its subject and modern (for the time) means of expression, is quite static and calm: it seems almost conservative. The characters are at a correct distance from each other, potential emotions or passions are absent or in intellectually controlled positions. The energy balance is stereotypical: the man adopts an active pose, the woman is passive. My work, taking into account a certain geometrization and conventionality, departs in a slightly different direction: dynamics and movement appear in it, there is room for freedom and spontaneous activity on both sides. Energies mix and create a new common quality, elements of both figures begin to intermingle, more expressive and "uncontrollable" lines and shapes appear. The color scheme is more vivid, although I am still moving in a severely limited color palette. The dance of two people becomes one figure.
