Kazimierz Ostrowski (b. 1917 - 1999), Kartuzy I

Painter, ceramicist, stained glass artist and textile designer, associated with the Gdansk State Higher School of Fine Arts. Between 1946 and 1950, he studied in the studios of A. Nacht-Samborski and J. Zulawski. As a scholarship holder of the French government, he also studied with F. Léger in Paris. He defended his diploma in 1952. Professor and long-time lecturer at the present Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. In 1981-1984, he was vice-dean of the Faculty of Painting and Graphics. He ran his Painting Studio until 1987. He was involved in the implementation of painting wall decorations within the Old and Main Town of Gdansk. Winner of the Jan Cybis Award (1988). Since 2002, ZPAP in Gdansk has awarded an annual prize named after Ostrowski for outstanding achievements in painting.
