Biography
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he received a diploma with distinction in S. Gierowski's painting studio in 1983. From that year he became the youngest member of "Gruppa". Until 1989 he painted figurative paintings, often with historical and patriotic references. In the early 1990s, a series of collages were created, in which the artist focused on the aesthetics of everyday life, with notable titles: "Exercises in the aesthetics in which I grew up", "Landmarks that are necessary to avoid madness". In the 2000s, political themes continued to be part of Kovalevsky's artistic activity, as evidenced by cycles that were part of the anti-totalitarian discourse: "Not allowed!" (2010) and "Totalitarianism Simulator" (2012). Since 1985, he has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Design at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, where he received the rank of professor in 2019.
