ROMAN RUTKOWSKI (1930-2010)
Graduated from four grades of elementary school, followed by a butcher's course, which enabled him to work in a meat factory. He married and had two children. After his marriage broke up, he lived in a nursing home in Brwilno near Plock since 2002. Rutkowski painted mainly pastels on cardboard, although he also used other techniques. His subjects included colorful birds, domestic animals and wild, exotic species such as kangaroos and snakes. Less frequently, he depicted people. He often painted pairs of animals of the same species facing each other, but it is unclear whether he depicted them in combat or in a loving embrace. The compositions of his works were usually symmetrical, although he sometimes violated this symmetry with small details on the periphery of the main subject. In his paintings he did not try to render three-dimensional space, and his source of inspiration was a child's imagination.
