Subjective description of the painting:
It was supposed to be a great journey. The trip of a lifetime. Paradise beaches, beautiful weather, gorgeous nature and colorful birds flying overhead. After the big storm, black clouds and hurricane winds there is practically no trace left. After our yacht, too... We are left alone, on a deserted island, our boxes floating around, reminding us of the recent drama. And somehow this nature does not please, the birds even annoy. Only is it really a desert island? The bamboo structures did not make themselves. And where did the chimney on the neighboring islet come from! Fear mixes with disbelief. Something else is going to happen here....
About the Artist:
Thierry VAN QUICKENBORNE has been exhibiting his work since 1980. His reputation as an imaginative painter extends beyond the borders of France. He is a member of the Taylor Foundation and has received many awards. His works are in many private collections and in the Stadt Bühl Museum (Baden-Baden, Germany). They also appear in art books such as "Apocalypses" and "The Horse in Fantasy Painting." He has presented his paintings in solo or group exhibitions in France, Germany, Japan, Luxembourg, Spain, the USA, the United Arab Emirates and Belgium.
His works are close to surrealists, visionaries, steampunk, although he does not really belong to these movements. So it is a painting anchored in its time, remaining somewhere on the margins of these currents.
L'Écho - Brussels:
"Such art, handled by skillful craftsmanship, by an intelligence that is both cruel and empathetic, will not leave lovers of high-quality imaginative painting indifferent."
