Zenon MOSKVA
1929 Lviv - 1992 Katowice
Painter and graphic artist, poster designer, educator. Studied at the Graphic Arts Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, where he received his diploma in the studio of Boguslaw Górecki in 956. Since 1966 he was a member of the Arkat group and until 1973 actively participated in all its exhibitions. At that time he also cooperated with the Art and Graphic Publishing House in Katowice and the Silesia Publishing House in Katowice. From 1962 to 1978, he worked as a stage designer at the Silesian Theater in Katowice. From 1976 to 1989, he served as the Chief City Visual Artist of Katowice. He was also a graphic designer for the Silesian Museum's publishing house. Since 1977, he was a lecturer at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Arts at the University of Silesia (branch in Cieszyn), where he led the Studio of Painting and Drawing. The artist's early works betray his fascination with synthetic cubism, he also experiments with abstract painting and informel art. By the 1960s, he is almost entirely concerned with matter painting. His works are dominated by natural materials (including sand, earth, boards, remnants of various objects), used to create collages and assemblages. Early on, stencils of letters and numbers appear in his works. In later years, he often diversified his explorations with current inspirations and fresh directions, including in the use of bright colors or various games with traditional techniques. No less, he always remained faithful to the search within the picture plane and texture, invariably looking for a formal link to the symbolic and emotional message.
