August III of Saxony, Ducat 1756 EDC, Leipzig – date overstamped
Obverse:
A bust in right profile, wearing a crown and armor covered by a cloak.
Inscription on the rim: D G AVGVSTVS III REX POLONIARUM
Reverse:

On the rim, an inscription divided at the top by a crown: SAC ROM IMP ARCHIM ET ELECT 1756
The last digit of the date, 6, was struck over the digit 5; the overstrike … 1756/5 is rare.
Condition: NGC AU55
A beautifully struck and well-preserved piece. Good detail. Brilliance and plenty of mint luster. Overstruck date. Very high NGC grade. It is this very piece that received the highest NGC grade of AU55, and it is one of only two pieces with this grade. In this condition, the coin is rare and difficult to find on the collector’s market.
