A very nice representative piece of the 1840 thaler.
Definitely a rarer example in such excellent condition of the second obverse variety in the thaler coin range (with the abbreviation of the imperial name - FERD. I).
This coin was also a component of the monetary system of Galicia and Lodomeria.
In its reverse obverse obverse inscription was placed the Galician-Lodomerian titulature.
Hence it should attract the attention of Polish collectors of the Partition era.
Mint Vienna.
Emperor Ferdinand carried out thaler issues in every year of his reign, i.e. 1835-1848, as a rule exclusively at the Vienna mint. The exceptions were the years 1835-1836 (when, in addition to Vienna, thalers were occasionally minted in Prague) and the years 1837-1838, when the issue was also carried out at the Milan mint.
Obverse: head in laurel wreath, clockwise, below it the mint mark A, in the rim the legend:
FERD-I-D-G-AVSTR-IMP-HVNG-BOH-R-H-N-V-;
Reverse: eagle of the empire, in the rim legend:
REX-LOMB-ET-VEN-DALM--GAL-LOD-ILL-A-A-1840-;
