Poland, Wladyslaw IV, Crown, thaler, 1633, men. Bydgoszcz, Jakub Jakobson.
King in armor with a chain and badge of the Order of the Golden Fleece; at the bottom, the coat of arms of the Saxon Grand Treasurer Jan Danilowicz.
Silver, 28.97 g, 44.2 mm. Kopicki 1488 (R); Gumowski MBydg. 996; Czapski 1743; Zagórski 410.
Condition I, beautifully minted and exquisitely preserved - stamp flower!
It must be admitted that the coin looks excellent in photos (and in person!), without comparison better than in engravings in old books. Gumowski's claim that "the drawing is not very artistic" does not hold true. It is a beautiful portrait of a slim, young and promising king. However, it must be admitted that it can be fully appreciated on such an excellent example as the offered thaler. It only takes a slightly worse preserved piece for the quality of the portrait to make a noticeably worse impression....
