A rare badge of the Man of Trust "Pro Publico Bono", associated with the organization of provisions for the inhabitants of Lviv during World War I in 1915.
The outbreak of World War I and the hostilities conducted in Galicia led to serious problems with supplying the population of Lviv with basic food products. During the war, it became necessary to create a food rationing and distribution system, in which supplying the inhabitants with bread and flour was of particular importance.
The functioning of this system was related to the Bread Office and the Bread Card Publishing Office, responsible for organizing rationing and issuing cards enabling people to purchase specific amounts of bread.
The presented badge belonged to the group of "Pro Publico Bono" signs, intended for people involved in organizing the city's war provisions. Auction sources refer to them as badges issued to officials of the Bread Bureau and District Presidents, and the textile version of the presented type is known in literature and catalogs as the "Pro Publico Bono Man of Trust Badge 1915".
On the red and navy blue ribbon there is the inscription "Pro Publico Bono" with the date 1915. The coat of arms of Lviv is attached to the ribbon.
Fastening with a safety pin.
Badge from the Collection of Lech Kokociński, Honorary President of the Polish Numismatic Society.
