Patinated bronze, black marblite; height 84 cm, base diameter 18 cm.
Italy, cast 19th/20th century.
Circular base, turned, of marblite. Cylindrical pedestal, with relief allegorical scenes - featuring nude putti indulging in art: sculpture, painting, drawing. On the pedestal - a figure of a young, naked woman, supported with one foot by a cloud-dipped wheel. In her right hand, the figure holds a horn of plenty; her left arm raised in the air emphasizes the fluidity of movement, the impression of divine floating in the skies, against the laws of gravity.
This way of shaping sculptural works was characteristic of Giambolognia's workshop.
