Biography
Born in 1959. Sculptor, installation artist, educator, and one of Poland’s most renowned artists, frequently working in public spaces. From 1975 to 1980, he attended the A. Kenar High School of Fine Arts in Zakopane. From 1980 to 1985, he studied sculpture at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. In 1984, he conceived the Rotational Gallery, which involved conducting artistic activities in various locations and rebelling against the reality of martial law (degraded and reclaimed sites, outside the art world, Land Art projects, Barracks, Forts). In 1985, he founded the Wyspa Gallery. Today, Klaman heads the Intermedia Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and remains an active promoter of the arts. Through his art, he participates in the debate on contemporary issues. He is fascinated by the ambiguity of culture and its entanglement with the mechanisms of power.
