Provenance
Warsaw, collection of the artist's heirs.
"I create happy art," Maria Papa Rostkowska used to say. These words, uttered by a woman who experienced many dramas in her life, as if in spite of the fact, are reflected in her sculptural realizations. The themes touched upon by Maria Papa, such as love, motherhood or heroism, are universal on the one hand, and on the other, individually experienced, can take on many different faces. Close to abstraction, the non-figurative forms created by this famous Polish sculptor allow us to discover the reality within ourselves. Fusion of Love is a work that was created around 1994. Two intertwined bodies form one sensual form. The love uniting two people here takes on an allusive, almost abstract shape, and the form itself is drawn with soft wavy lines. This form is strong on the one hand and on the other, thanks to the roundness of the shapes, has a large element of delicacy in it. Maria Papa amazed her contemporaries with her strength and determination. Working as an equal in a masculinized sculptural environment, she lost none of her femininity. Fusion of Love, next to forms already known to the Polish public such as Mother and Child, Warrior or Purity, belongs to the canon of Maria Papa's most beautiful sculptural works, encapsulating the essence of her work - the constant pursuit of beauty and happiness.
Against the background of the Polish artist's works presented on the market so far, the offered sculpture is of special importance from the collector's point of view, as this casting is the only existing piece in bronze. Moreover, it is accompanied by its prototype, carved in pink Portuguese marble.
