Biography
Polish painter, textile artist, wife of the artist Tadeusz Łakomski. She completed her studies in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1948, in the atelier of Fryderyk Pautsch, Wojciech Weiss and Jerzy Fedkowicz. Immediately after graduation, she was hired as a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, where she worked for many years. During her life, she traveled extensively as an artist, from which she drew much inspiration. She visited Italy, Austria and Turkey, among others. She also traveled in the Balkans. Muszanka-Lakomska's work includes both realistic and abstract compositions. Her works reveal the extraordinary color sensitivity she was gifted with. She began her journey as a realist. She abandoned figuration for good in the 1960s, turning to a fascination with collage and issues of abstract form and texture in painting. During this time she also drew on the poetics of Surrealism. The artist's works can be found in the collections of the National Museum in Cracow, the Museum in Chrzanów, the District Museum in Piła, the National Museum of the Przemysl Region in Przemyśl and in private collections at home and abroad (including Rome, London and Los Angeles).
