Stanisław Michalik (1941–2001)
Polish sculptor, a graduate of the Sculpture Department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he received his diploma in 1966 under the guidance of Prof. Marian Wnuk. In the 1970s, he undertook numerous artistic trips throughout Europe, visiting, among others, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Germany (both West Germany and East Germany), and the Soviet Union (1973–1977).
He received an honorable mention at the 8th Festival of Fine Arts at Zachęta in 1981 and participated in the prestigious FIDEM International Medal Exhibition in 1990.
In his creative work, Michalik primarily used stone, wood, and metal, creating both small-scale sculptures and large-scale outdoor installations. His body of work is characterized by a metaphorical and abstract nature, in which form is subordinate to expression and symbolism. At the same time, he was active in medal making and the design of functional objects, combining technical precision with a poetic reflection on matter and space in his works.
