Olga Boznańska (1865, Cracow - 1940, Paris) - one of the most outstanding Polish painters of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a representative of modernism and a respected portraitist. She was educated in Krakow and Munich, and from the 1890s was mainly active in Paris. Her paintings are distinguished by a subtle, subdued color palette, soft modeling and psychological depth of the figures she portrayed. She primarily created portraits, less frequently still lifes and interior scenes. Her best-known work is Girl with Chrysanthemums (1894). Boznanska was a member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and one of the few Polish women to win recognition from European art critics.
