Print, paper; 22.5 x 30 cm
Inscribed in pencil on the reverse: UM 1880 / KLIMT - BRUSTILD EINES REICHNEDEN MANNES
Print based on a drawing by Gustav Klimt
Klimt studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna. Initially he did various decorative works, which later translated into the artist's work. Klimt became the main initiator of the artistic changes taking place, rejecting academic canons and, together with other artists, founding the Association of Austrian Artists - Secession. Klimt's goal was to create total, absolute work, i.e. free from all conventions, limitations imposed by academic concepts. The artist's paintings are an expression of unlimited creative freedom, fully expressing the exuberance and complexity of the era in which he was given the opportunity to create. His works became an inspiration for many artists of his contemporaries and remain so to this day.
