August II the Strong, Thaler 1704 ILH, Dresden – very rare
Obverse:
A bust in right-facing profile, clad in armor and draped in a cloak.
Inscription on the rim: DUX SAX I C M A & W – D G FRID AUG REX POL
Reverse:
A crown. Beneath the crown, between palm branches, two shields bearing the coats of arms of Poland, Lithuania, and Saxony. Beneath the shields, the initials I L-H (Johann Lorenz Holland—master of the Dresden mint).
On the rim, an inscription divided at the top by a crown: SAC ROM IMP ARCHIM ET ELECT (hook) 1704
Condition: NGC AU53
A beautifully struck and well-preserved piece. High NGC grade. A very rare coin and extremely difficult to find on the collector’s market.
