August II the Strong as Frederick Augustus, Thaler 1696 IK, Dresden
A coin of Frederick Augustus, later King of Poland.
Obverse:
A bust holding a sword, in right-facing profile.
Inscription on the rim: FRID AUGUST D G DUX SAX I C M ANGR ET WESTPH
Reverse:
A multi-field coat-of-arms shield. At the bottom, on either side of the shield, the initials I–K (Johann Koch—master of the Leipzig mint).
Inscription on the rim: 96 SAC ROM IMP AR - CHIM ET ELECT (crossed arrows) 16
Condition: NGC AU55
A beautifully struck and well-preserved coin. Three-dimensional relief. Beautiful detail. Luster and plenty of mint mirror finish. High NGC grade. This is the very piece that received the highest NGC AU55 grade, and it is the only piece with this grade. In this condition, the coin is rare and hard to find on the collector’s market. A beautiful piece for discerning collectors.
