August II the Strong, Thaler 1733 IGS, Dresden – rare
Obverse:
A bust in right-facing profile, clad in armor and draped in a cloak.
On the rim, an inscription divided at the top by the royal apple: D G FRID AUGUST REX POL DUX SAX I C M A & W
Reverse:
A crown. Below the crown, between palm branches, two shields bearing the Polish, Lithuanian, and Saxon coats of arms. Below, the date 1733, the initials I G S (Johann Georg Schomburg—Master of the Dresden Mint), and the mint mark (a hook).
Around the rim, an inscription divided at the top by a crown: SAC ROM IMP ARCHIM ET ELECTOR
Condition: NGC MS61
A beautifully struck and well-preserved piece. Three-dimensional relief. Beautiful detail. Luster and mirror finish. Very high NGC grade. This is the very piece that received the highest NGC MS61 grade, and it is one of only two pieces with this grade. A rare year. In this condition, the coin is rare and hard to find on the collector’s market. A beautiful piece for discerning collectors.
